The name — what “Octava” means

Octava is the Spanish word for “eighth.”

The number eight has long been considered auspicious in both East and West. In telecommunications, a group of eight bits is called an octet.

In sheet music, the marking “8va” tells the performer to play an octave higher. It abbreviates the Italian ottava, which — like octava — traces back to the Latin word for eight.

The same note, raised by a single octave, sounds altogether different. In that marking we see our own purpose: to make society one step better through information and communications technology.
